Novel said, even from the prevention side, so far the government has not shown its seriousness

Senior Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan assesses that the effort to eradicate corruption is currently in a sad state.  This is evident from the attacks received by the KPK.

"Attacked from various sides, the KPK was weakened, the attacks were left alone and instead there seemed to be a victory for corruptors," Novel said at the KPK Building, Jakarta, Monday, December 9, 2019.

The novel exemplifies the attitude of President Joko Widodo who instead refused to publish Government Regulations in lieu of the KPK Law or KPK Perpu.  Because the new KPK Law was passed in October 2019 and was considered as an effort to weaken the KPK.

In addition, Novel said, even from the prevention side, so far the government has not shown its seriousness. "Most of them are not effective. There must be a system improvement," he said.

However, the improvement of the system will also have no effect if the community itself does not have a fear of corruption. Novel said, they would instead rack their brains and find other ways to continue to be able to corrupt.

"Actions and prevention are carried out in the context of people afraid of corruption and do not want to do corruption," Novel said.
