The National Examination (UN) is still being held in 2020

Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim stressed that the National Examination (UN) is still being held in 2020. At present, the negative side is still being examined.

"We are still reviewing (regarding the elimination of the UN), but in 2020 it still continues. That has been announced," Nadiem said in Jakarta, Saturday (11/30).

The discourse, he said, arises because there are so many aspirations from the community, teachers, students, parents about the UN.  But many of these inputs actually do not want to delete the UN.

"Preferring to avoid negative things from the UN, for example in terms of stress, punishing students in a field that is less strong. So this principle is not to erase, but to improve the essence of the UN, whether to assess student achievement or the system," he said.

Previously, there was a discourse about the elimination of the National Exam by Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim. The same thing had actually been initiated by the Minister of Education and Culture namely Muhadjir Effendy, but received a lot of opposition from a number of groups.

In early 2019, the Ministry of Education and Culture had prepared the Indonesian Student Competency Assessment (SCAI), as an assessment system for mapping the quality of education in lieu of the National Examination (UN). The SCAI is similar to the international assessment system, the Program for International Students Assessment (PISA).
